Made to Measure Curtains and Roman Blinds in Jane Churchill fabrics

Jane Churchill is one of the brands owned by the highly regarded Colefax and Fowler company; their fabrics are marketed under the Colefax and Fowler brand itself, alongside Jane Churchill, Manuel Canovas and Larsen.

Jane Churchill herself, scion of the famous Spencer-Churchill family, is no longer involved with the fabric company that bears her name, though she still works as an interior designer as she has for over 40 years, with her work making her a household name both in Britain and abroad. She has written several books on the subject and has an extensive knowledge of classic decorating tradition with her work often combining the classic and the contemporary.

Jane Churchill’s first job interestingly was as a decorator with Colefax and Fowler. She then opened a gift shop in London at the age of 23 called Treasure Island which proved popular and highly successful, specialising in esoteric imports.

Along with Erik Karlsen and fabric designer Robert Adamson, Jane Churchill Ltd was established as a fabric and wallpaper business in the 1980s, positioning the company alongside Laura Ashley as accessible to all with a wide market appeal. They opened a small chain of shops in Southern England and enjoyed considerable success, ultimately selling the business to Colefax and Fowler.

As an important part of the Colefax and Fowler family, the Jane Churchill brand takes the British ‘look’ and gives it a slightly informal but highly stylish and fashionable take, adding an artistic twist to create contemporary elegance. Look no further if a beautiful and striking embroidery would add a focal point to your décor, or perhaps a lively print, or a gorgeous, rich weave in a palette of lovely colours.

The fabrics in the photo above are Jane Churchill Oxana Check in Red, J0188-06 for the Curtains and Jane Churchill Delamere Red/Green, J865F-01 for the Roman Blinds, both recent installations.

The Colefax and Fowler story started in the 1930s when Lady Sibyl Colefax began decorating for her circle of friends and acquaintances and proving to be a great success, with John Fowler joining her in1938 to help her expand. Between them they created one of the great names in British interior design.
